Fire Crews Fight 3-Alarm Blaze In Whitehall Township Apartment Complex: Authorities

Multiple fire departments responded to a three-alarm blaze at a Lehigh County apartment complex Friday, Oct. 25, according to authorities.

The Whitehall Township Fire Department responded to the call to the Independence Square Apartments, located at 1 Maryland Circle, at 2:50 a.m., an operator at the Lehigh County 911 Call Center confirmed to Daily Voice.

This apartment fire involved entrapment, according to a Coplay Fire Department Facebook post on Friday, Oct. 25.

The Diamond Company of Walnutport aided Coplay in covering for the Whitehall units while they battled the blaze, a post on the company's Facebook page states.

Fire crews evacuated about 400 residents from the apartment building, according to an NBC 10 report. The blaze started in a storage locker on the second floor and spread to three or four apartments, the report states. 

Daily Voice reached out to Whitehall Township Fire Chief Mark Bilder for confirmation on the number of residents evacuated and for more information about the fire but there was no response at the time of publication.

Police officers were also reportedly on scene assisting in rescue efforts, NBC 10 said. Daily Voice reached out to the Whitehall Township Police Department for more information on officer involvement, but there was no response from them at publishing time.
